Ann C. Caringer

Ann Caringer, of Issaquah, passed away in Bellevue on January, 16th, 2008. She was 63 years old.Ann was born on February 22, 1944 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Eugene and Mary Hayes. She was raised in the Bronx and moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1975. She worked for many years as a legal secretary. Ann moved to the Woodinville, WA area in 1984, where she settled in Issaquah in 1998 and worked as a demonstrator at Costco for nearly 11 years.

Ann is remembered by her family and long-time friends as a woman who loved to give back to her community, volunteering for many years at the local food bank, and touching many lives through her kindness and generosity. Ann enjoyed spending her time at the local library and collecting treasures at thrift shops, always seeing the beauty and value in things othersleft behind. Ann had a great love of animals, and took great delight in talking and socializing with new acquaintances and friends.

Ann is survived by her long-time companion Alan Risdon of Issaquah, her son Kevin Caringer of Arapahoe County, Colorado; three daughters Kimberly and Katy Caringer of Tucson, AZ, and Kristin Caringer of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, Alyssa andAshton Caringer; brother Eugene Hayes of Averill Park, NY; and sisters Kathy Swider and Margaret Hayes of Florida.

A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26th, 2008 at Flintofts Issaquah Funeral Home. The family suggests remembrances to Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank where Ann worked as a volunteer. Issaquah Valley Community Services, P.O. Box 652 Issaquah, WA 98027.

With a lot of patience and support from the family, I finished my Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Colorado Denver in May 2008 with an emphasis in Enterprise Technology Management.

University of Colorado President Bruce D. Benson handed off the diploma and thoughtfully reminded me to smile for the picture. Several friends and family attended the Spring Commencement 2008 including my wife Sheri, my two kids Aly and Ashton, my dad Bob Caringer from Missouri, my Sister Kim from Arizona, Cheryl Hamilton and Wendy Wissbaum. (Dad, Ashton, and Kim are pictured on the far right.)

The next day, I celebrated the graduation with a trip to Disneyland! Well, I did have to work on Monday to wrap up the old job in Los Angeles, but the next day I headed over to Disneyland and California Adventure. I was able to get a photo with both Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear with my stylish blue Disneyland "Class of 2008" Graduation Cap. Mickey was particularly happy about my accomplishment and many of other visitors at the park also congratulated me. In fact, everyone was happy for me except for one gentleman who challenged me in California Adventure. He said that "he wasn't buying it" and that I looked a little old to have graduated. I assured him that I really had finished graduate school the previous weekend. Ashton corroborated my story and explained that despite having to sit through the entire 2 hour commencement, he was really proud of me for graduating. Ashton's story seemed to satisfy the man that I really deserved to wear the "Mickey Ears" mortarboard despite my advanced age.

After wrapping up our 3 days at Disneyland, we visited friends in Thousand Oaks, CA. The following week Aly and I flew back to Denver. Aly has to finish up finals in middle school; she achieved straight As! While Aly was wrapping up 6th grade, I started by new job as Vice President Information Technology at Dish Network in Englewood, CO. Sheri and Ashton had a mini-spring break road trip and drove my car back from L.A.
